Pakistan files an appeal against Lakhvi's bail in Supreme Court
Islamabad, Jan 1: The Pakistan government challenged Lashkar-e-Toiba operative and 26/11 Mumbai attack mastermind Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi's bail in the Supreme Court on Thursday. His release had been contested on many occassions in the past few weeks, especially when the Islamabad High Court had approved his release earlier this week only to be remanded yet again on charges of abducting a man named Anwar six and a half years ago.
However, Lakhvi's counsel Advocate Rizwan Abbasi had contested against the allegations accusing pressure from India that led to the framing of 'baseless' FIRs.
Prior to that, his release was ordered on December 18 by an anti-terror court in Pakistan, claiming that there was no evidence found against him in the Mumbai blast case. IN this case too, he was detained under a public order law, following massive uproar in India.
Lakhvi too, had challenged the two-day physical remand in a kidnapping case in a district and sessions court in Islamabad on Wednesday.
