Odisha Names New Deputy CMs: A Blend of Experience and Fresh Perspectives
In a significant political development in Odisha, the state is set to witness the swearing-in of its new deputy chief ministers on Wednesday, showcasing a blend of vast political experience and fresh perspective. K V Singh Deo, a seasoned politician with six legislative terms under his belt, is poised to join forces with Pravati Parida, who marks her debut in the legislative assembly. This duo represents a striking contrast in their political journey and expertise.

K V Singh Deo, hailing from the erstwhile royal family of Patnagarh, has been a prominent figure in Odisha's political landscape. Elected for the sixth time from the Patnagarh constituency, Deo's political career is adorned with significant roles, including his tenure as Minister of Industry and Public Enterprise during the BJP-BJD coalition government from 2000 to 2009. His familial background in politics is notable, with his wife Sangeeta Kumari Devi serving as a four-time MP from Bolangir and his grandfather R N Singh Deo having led Odisha as Chief Minister from 1966 to 1971.
On the other end of the spectrum, Pravati Parida steps into the legislative assembly for the first time representing the Nimapara seat, after three unsuccessful attempts. Parida's academic credentials include a law degree from Utkal University obtained in 1995 and subsequent enrolment as an advocate in the Orissa High Court the same year. Furthering her education, she completed her post-graduation in Public Administration in 2005 from Utkal University.
The newly formed BJP government in Odisha has set ambitious goals, with Singh Deo expressing confidence in propelling Odisha to become the leading state in the country. Parida echoed this sentiment, expressing gratitude towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the opportunity to serve and committing to fulfill the promises made to youths, women, and farmers at the grassroots level.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) made a remarkable entry into power by securing 78 of the 147 assembly seats in Odisha, thereby concluding the 24-year governance of Naveen Patnaik's Biju Janata Dal (BJD). The ceremony marking the beginning of this new chapter is scheduled at Janata Maidan in Bhubaneswar.
This transition not only signifies a change in leadership but also reflects a blend of experience and new perspectives within Odisha's political arena. As these deputy chief ministers take their oaths, all eyes will be on how this dynamic duo navigates their roles to achieve their vision for Odisha.
