Odisha Floods: 135 Rescued in Malkangiri, Relief Operations Continue
On Monday, approximately 135 individuals were rescued from various flood-hit regions in Malkangiri district, Odisha, and relocated to relief camps, according to an official. Collector Sachin Pawar, after inspecting the affected areas, mentioned that the flood situation has improved, and vehicular movement on the Pangam and Potteru bridges has resumed as the water levels receded.

Flood Impact on Infrastructure
Despite the improvement, floodwaters continued to flow over the Kangurukonda bridge, disrupting connectivity between Malkangiri and Kalimela. The Godavari river in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh is also in spate, raising concerns about potential flooding in the Mottu area. Additionally, water from the Polavaram dam project is flowing towards Mottu.
Pawar stated he is in constant communication with Andhra Pradesh's Irrigation Department and is closely monitoring the district's situation. Numerous roads and bridges have sustained damage due to the floods. While 95 houses have been reported damaged, the full extent of cropland damage will be assessed once the water recedes.
Relief Measures and Monitoring
To manage the situation effectively, 24-hour control rooms have been established in seven blocks of the district. Officers have been deployed in the affected areas to provide assistance and monitor conditions. "We are doing everything possible to ensure safety and provide necessary aid," Pawar said.
The flood's impact on infrastructure has been significant, with many roads and bridges damaged. The exact extent of damage to croplands will be determined after water levels drop. Authorities are working tirelessly to restore normalcy and provide relief to those affected.
Efforts are ongoing to repair damaged infrastructure and support affected residents. The administration is focused on ensuring that essential services are restored promptly and that relief reaches all those in need.
The situation remains under close watch as authorities coordinate with neighbouring states to manage water flow and prevent further flooding. Residents are advised to stay alert and follow official updates for their safety.
As rescue operations continue, authorities are committed to mitigating the flood's impact and aiding recovery efforts. The community's resilience and cooperation are crucial during this challenging time.
The district administration urges residents to remain cautious and report any emergencies immediately. Relief measures will continue until normalcy is fully restored.
Efforts by local authorities aim to ensure that all affected individuals receive timely assistance and support during this crisis. The focus remains on safeguarding lives and rebuilding affected areas efficiently.
The administration's proactive measures reflect its commitment to addressing the challenges posed by the floods and ensuring a swift recovery for Malkangiri district.
