NRC draft: No reason to panic, completely impartial report, says Rajnath Singh

New Delhi, July 30: Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday said the draft National Register of Citizens for Assam is completely "impartial" and those whose names are not included shouldn't panic as they will get an opportunity to prove their Indian citizenship.

"People should not be scared. The NRC procedure has been done without any bias. I would like to assure that all those who have been left out will be given a chance to raise objections," he said.

"Some people are unnecessarily trying to create an atmosphere of fear. This is a completely impartial report. No misinformation should be spread.This is a draft and not the final list," he added.

"Even someone whose name is not in the final list can approach the foreigners tribunal. No coercive action will be taken against anyone, hence there is no need for anyone to panic," he further said.

The government today released the final draft of National Register of Citizens (NRCNSE 2.22 %) list. The final draft contains names of 28,983,677 citizens and around 40 lakh people have been left out of the list. The first draft of the NRC process was released in December 31, 2017 in which name of around 1.9 crore people out of the total application of 3.29 crore people were included.

The state government has beefed up security across the state and has requested the citizens to not believe in any rumours. Prohibitory order under Section 144 of CrPC has been imposed in seven districts-- Barpeta, Darrang, Dima Hasao, Sonitpur, Karimganj, Golaghat and Dhubri.
