Noida Film City to be a game-changer

The Film City is expected to generate a significant number of jobs in various fields such as film production, post-production, animation, VFX, hospitality, tourism and other related sectors

The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) has given approval for the construction of an International Film City in sector 21 in the Greater Noida region. The project site is just 6 km from the upcoming Noida International Airport in Jewar and 12 km from the Eastern Peripheral Expressway.

The proposed film city is expected to be developed on a 1,000-acre land near the Yamuna Expressway and is expected to provide world-class facilities for film and television production. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had announced about setting up of the Film city in September 2020.

According to the officials, the proposed Film City will be developed in three phases, with the first phase expected to be completed by 2023. The project is being developed in collaboration with private players while the total investment for the project is estimated to be around Rs 7,000 crore.

The Film City is expected to have facilities such as film studios, post-production facilities, outdoor shooting locations and other infrastructure required for film and television production. The project is expected to generate huge employment opportunities for local residents and boost the economy of the region.

Meanwhile, a Swedish construction firm 'Serneke' has shown interest to invest Rs 10,000 crore in the Film City project. ''Swedish companies are ready to invest in Uttar Pradesh in areas like film industry, retail, tourism and waste management,'' a statement by the Uttar Pradesh government said on Thursday. Global companies like Sony have also shown interest in the project.

On Wednesday, YEIDA had announced that it has decided to develop the proposed Film City on its own if it cannot find developers or hire developers on its terms. The Yamuna Authority had set the end of November 2022 as the deadline for developers or companies to apply for the project. Later, it was extended to March 31 as the final date to apply for the project, as per a MoneyControl report.

Speaking on the project, YEIDA Chief Executive Arun Vir Singh said, ''We have decided that we will develop this Film City project on our own if the companies will not come forward for the same or if we cannot hire the company on our terms.''

The Film City is expected to generate a significant number of jobs in various fields such as film production, post-production, animation, VFX, hospitality, tourism and other related sectors. The project is expected to create both skilled and unskilled jobs, which will benefit the local population and boost the region's economy.

The project is expected to generate significant revenue for the State government through taxes, lease rentals and other charges. This revenue can be used for further development of the region and create more job opportunities.

''We will float a global tender after the UP Cabinet approves the revised detailed project report (DPR). The Film City project will not only create opportunities in the region but also boost growth with investments from global players," CEO Singh said.

Overall, the Greater Noida Film City has the potential to be a game-changer for the region's economy and job market. It will not only create direct and indirect job opportunities but also boost the infrastructure and tourism industries, thereby creating a positive ripple effect on the region's economy.
