No need to check me I am fine, Yakub Memon told doctor

New Delhi, July 30: I am fine there is no need to examine me, Yakub Memon told the doctors at the Nagpur central jail. As per the procedure, a medical officer is required to examine a death row convict before he is sent to the gallows.

The medical officer however went ahead and examined him. It would have a procedural lapse had the examination not taken place, an official informed.

Memon's health condition was fine when he was examined, the doctors certified before he was sent off to the gallows.

I was not given the justice:

Yakub Memon who had resigned to his fate would tell fellow inmates that he was not given the justice he deserved. He felt that the Supreme Court was too harsh on him and he ought to have been pardoned. He had in fact said this to a couple of security personnel posted at the Nagpur jail.

According to jail officials he even said a final good bye to some of the jail inmates. He did this last night itself. Only his family members were hopeful that they would get last minute relief from the Supreme Court, but Yakub appeared confident that it was all over.

Argument at jail:

Yakub Memon's family members who reached jail a while ago had a heated argument on the handing over of the body. The Nagpur jail authorities tried to convince them that the final rites as per all rituals will be conducted in the Nagpur jail itself.

However there was a heated argument and the family members insisted that the body be handed over. They were repeatedly assuring the authorities that there would be no problem if the body was handed over. The Nagpur jail authorities sought a nod from the Maharashtra government on the issue before a final decision to hand over the body was made.
