Nitrogen Gas Leak at Medley Pharma in Palghar Results in Four Fatalities and Two Serious Injuries

A nitrogen gas leak at Medley Pharma in Palghar led to the deaths of four workers and left two others critically injured. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.

Four workers lost their lives, and two others were hospitalised following a nitrogen gas leak at a pharmaceutical company in Maharashtra's Palghar district. The incident occurred at Medley Pharma, situated on plot number 13 of Boisar Industrial Estate, approximately 130 kilometres from the city. The leak happened between 2.30 pm and 3 pm, affecting six workers severely.

The affected workers were immediately taken to Shinde Hospital. Unfortunately, four of them succumbed to their injuries around 6.15 pm. The deceased have been identified as Kalpesh Raut, aged 43, Bengali Thakur, aged 46, Dheeraj Prajapati, aged 31, and Kamlesh Yadav, aged 31. At the time of the incident, there were 36 workers present in the plant.

Investigation into Safety Protocols

The condition of the two injured individuals, Rohan Shinde from Boisar and Nilesh Hadal from Dahanu, remains critical. They are under constant observation in the ICU, according to doctors at the hospital. Local police and officials from the Directorate of Industrial Safety and Health (DISH) visited the site to initiate preliminary investigations.

A thorough investigation is being conducted to determine if there were any lapses in safety protocols during the process. The exact cause of the leak will be ascertained after a technical assessment of the nitrogen tank is completed. A case has been registered, and further inquiries are ongoing.

Details of Deceased Workers

Kalpesh Raut was a resident of Chinchani in Dahanu, while Bengali Thakur hailed from Patna in Bihar. Dheeraj Prajapati lived in Shivajinagar in Boisar's Salvad area, and Kamlesh Yadav was from Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh. These details were provided by officials involved in the investigation.
