Nitish Kumar Meets Modi, Shah, Nadda in Delhi, Pledges Unwavering Commitment to NDA

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar met Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and BJP President JP Nadda in Delhi, emphasizing his unwavering commitment to the NDA. Discussions focused on governance and political matters in Bihar, with Nadda expressing confidence in the NDA governments continued development under PM Modis leadership.

In a significant development, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Wednesday. This meeting holds particular importance as it marks their first encounter since Kumar's Janata Dal United (JDU) severed ties with the opposition INDIA bloc and rejoined the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) last month. During his visit to the national capital, Kumar also held separate meetings with Home Minister Amit Shah and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president J.P. Nadda.

Discussions on Governance and Political Issues

The meetings between Kumar and the senior BJP leaders are believed to have covered a wide range of governance and political matters related to Bihar. BJP president J.P. Nadda took to social media after the meeting, highlighting that they engaged in a constructive discussion on various issues, including the state's development and progress. Nadda expressed confidence that the NDA government in Bihar, under the able leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will continue to achieve new heights of development.

Nitish Kumar's Commitment to the NDA

In his brief interaction with reporters, the JDU chief reflected on his long-standing association with the BJP since 1995, despite a brief period of estrangement in 2013. Kumar emphasized that while he may have parted ways with the BJP twice in the past, he is now firmly committed to the alliance and will never leave it again. This declaration underscores Kumar's determination to remain within the NDA.

Upcoming Trust Vote and Political Challenges

The meetings in Delhi come just five days ahead of Kumar's government facing a crucial trust vote in the Bihar Assembly scheduled for February 12. Kumar had previously taken the oath along with eight ministers, including three each from the BJP and the JDU, hinting at a potential expansion of the council of ministers in the near future. However, both parties face several intricate political challenges in the lead-up to the Lok Sabha polls, including the distribution of parliamentary seats among themselves and their smaller allies.

Seat-Sharing Discussions and Rajya Sabha Elections

During the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the BJP and the JDU contested 17 seats each in Bihar, while the then Lok Janshakti Party, now divided into two factions, contested on six seats. The NDA has since expanded to include former Bihar chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi and former Union minister Upendra Kushwaha. Amidst these developments, there are speculations that Kumar may seek the dissolution of the Bihar Assembly to align its elections with the Lok Sabha polls expected in April-May. However, sources suggest that the BJP, which holds a stronger position than the JDU in the House, may not be receptive to this idea.

Nitish Kumar's meetings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other senior BJP leaders in Delhi underscore the evolving political dynamics in Bihar. As the state prepares for a trust vote and navigates complex political challenges, the discussions held during these meetings will likely shape the course of governance and electoral strategies in the region.
