Nirbhaya documentary issue: Omar slams ban on docu, says it'll be 'counter-productive'
Srinagar, Mar 4: Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdulla today criticised the ban on a documentary film on the December 16 gang rape which include the interview of a convict in the case, saying such move would prove "counter-productive" as more people would now be curious to watch it.
"These sorts of bans are almost always counterproductive because now even those abroad who wouldn't have watched will be curious to see," Omar wrote on micro-blogging site Twitter.

"Jeez guys it's not the documentary that is defaming India it's the rape & the attitude towards woman. If the ban changes that then well done," he said.
Expressing concern that some news channels were taking "pleasure" in the ban, he said, "For news channels to take pleasure/satisfaction in the banning of a documentary is worrying 'cause 1 (one) day the boot could be on the other foot."
Omar also criticised the ban of Censor Board on some words in the movie 'Badmashiyaan'. "Let's just go back to the era of silent movies. Much safer "@Showbiz_IT: Censor Board chops off 'kuttey, kaminey' from film @Badmashiyaan," he posted.
