The Central government has taken swift action, dispatching a team of health experts to Kerala, as Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya officially attributed the two recent "unnatural deaths" in the state to the Nipah virus. The first death occurred on August 30, followed by a second on September 11.

Notably, Kerala experienced a Nipah virus outbreak in Kozhikode and Malappuram districts in 2018. Subsequently, in 2021, a Nipah virus case emerged in Kozhikode. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the Nipah Virus, transmitted by fruit bats, poses a potential threat to both humans and animals. Symptoms include respiratory illness, fever, muscular pain, headache, dizziness, and nausea.

Nipah virus infection is primarily zoonotic, meaning it can transmit from animals to humans and may also spread through contaminated food or close contact.
