NHRC Issues Notice to Gurugram Police Chief and Discom Regarding Lineman's Electrocution Incident
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken action regarding an incident in Gurugram, Haryana. A lineman was electrocuted while working on a transformer in Sikanderpur Badha. The NHRC has issued notices to the Gurugram police commissioner and a power distribution company following reports that electricity was restored while the lineman was still working.

According to a media report dated January 22, the lineman, associated with Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN), died instantly due to electrocution on January 21. The NHRC has expressed concern over this incident, highlighting potential human rights violations if the reports are accurate. The commission is seeking a detailed response from the authorities involved.
Human Rights Concerns and Official Notices
The NHRC has requested information from both the Chairman of DHBVN and the Commissioner of Police in Gurugram. They are expected to provide a comprehensive report within two weeks. This report should cover the status of any First Information Report (FIR) filed and details about any compensation given to the victim's family.
The family of the deceased lineman has reportedly accused the electricity department of gross negligence leading to his death. This allegation adds another layer of seriousness to the situation, prompting further investigation by the authorities.
Investigation and Accountability
The NHRC's involvement underscores the gravity of ensuring accountability in such incidents. By demanding detailed reports, the commission aims to uncover any lapses that may have contributed to this tragic event. The focus remains on determining whether proper safety protocols were followed during maintenance work.
This incident highlights ongoing concerns about worker safety in hazardous environments. Ensuring that workers are protected from preventable accidents is crucial, especially when dealing with high-risk tasks like electrical maintenance.
The NHRC's proactive stance reflects its commitment to safeguarding human rights and addressing potential violations swiftly. As investigations proceed, it remains essential for authorities to provide transparent updates and take corrective measures where necessary.
