Navigation Alert Issued for Arabian Sea Amid Ongoing Indian Navy Drills and Rising Tensions with Pakistan

India's maritime authorities have issued a navigation warning for commercial ships due to ongoing Indian Navy drills in the Arabian Sea. This alert comes amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack. The attack, which occurred on April 22, resulted in the deaths of 26 people, primarily tourists. The situation has led to heightened military readiness on both sides.

Navigation Alert in Arabian Sea Due to Tensions

Indian Navy's Precautionary Measures

The navigation warning was issued by India's National Hydrographic Office, which operates under the Indian Navy. Commercial vessels have been advised to steer clear of the area to ensure their safety. Meanwhile, Pakistan has also issued its own naval warnings as its Navy increases manoeuvres in critical sea lanes. Both countries' navies remain on high alert as India considers retaliatory actions against Pakistan.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Navy chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi to discuss the maritime situation. Although there is no official statement about the meeting, it is understood that Admiral Tripathi briefed the Prime Minister on current developments. The Indian government has expressed its determination to bring those responsible for the attack to justice.

Escalating Diplomatic Tensions

In response to the attack's cross-border links, India announced several punitive measures against Pakistan on April 23. These include suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, closing the only operational land-border crossing at Punjab's Attari, and downgrading diplomatic ties. New Delhi has emphasised that those involved in planning and supporting the attack must face justice.

Pakistan has reacted by closing its airspace to Indian aircraft and halting all trade with India, including through third countries. Additionally, Pakistan has rejected India's suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, warning that any attempt to stop water flow will be considered an act of war.

Military Readiness and Government Stance

During a high-level meeting with top defence officials, Prime Minister Modi stated that India's armed forces have full operational freedom to decide on how to respond to the Pahalgam attack. According to government sources, Modi affirmed that it is a national commitment to deliver a decisive blow against terrorism.

The escalating tensions between India and Pakistan highlight the fragile nature of their relations. Both nations are preparing for potential further confrontations as they navigate this complex geopolitical landscape.
