AAP Announces Nationwide Protest Against BJP After Kejriwal's Arrest
New Delhi, March 21 - In a significant political development, the Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) Delhi unit convener, Gopal Rai, has announced a nationwide protest against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) following the arrest of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) apprehended Kejriwal in connection with an excise policy-linked money laundering case. This event marks the first instance of a sitting chief minister being arrested, underscoring a dramatic escalation in the political tensions between AAP and BJP.

Rai vehemently criticized the arrest, describing it as "the murder of democracy" and a clear signal towards authoritarian rule. The arrest occurred shortly after the Delhi High Court declined to offer Kejriwal protection from any coercive actions by the ED. In light of these events, Rai has mobilized support for a protest aimed at showcasing opposition against what he terms as "dictatorship."
"I appeal to the countrymen to protest outside BJP offices across the country against this dictatorship. We will gather at the AAP office tomorrow at 10 am and then protest outside BJP headquarters," stated Rai during his announcement. He further emphasized the gravity of the situation by suggesting that if Kejriwal could be arrested, it opens the door for widespread suppression of dissenting voices across the nation.
Rai also linked the arrest to the recent formation of the INDIA bloc, suggesting that the BJP's actions are motivated by fear of losing a significant number of seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. "Ever since the INDIA bloc was formed, BJP feels it will not get 400 seats but will only be restricted to 40 seats in Lok Sabha polls," he explained. This statement underscores the perceived political motivations behind targeting opposition leaders, according to Rai.
The call for protest is not just a reaction to Kejriwal's arrest but also a rallying cry for those who oppose what they see as an encroachment on democratic principles. "Today, they have crossed all limits. You will all go back to your homes tonight. I appeal to Delhiites to join the fight," Rai concluded, urging residents of Delhi and supporters nationwide to stand against what he views as unjust actions by the BJP.
This incident has undoubtedly intensified the political rivalry between AAP and BJP, setting the stage for further confrontations in the lead-up to future elections. As tensions mount, Rai's call for nationwide protests represents a significant moment in India's contemporary political landscape, highlighting deep divisions and raising questions about democracy and governance in the country.
