Muzaffarnagar School Ordered To Close Amid Probe Into Student Slapping Row

Local authorities in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar district ordered the closure of Neha Public School in Khubbapur village on August 27, 2023. The decision came after a video of a student being slapped by his fellow classmates on the instructions of a teacher went viral on social media.

Despite the absence of factual basis for these claims, an investigation was launched into the school's management. The school, established in 2019, was found to be operating without the required authorisation from the education department. Consequently, the decision was made to seal the school, as stated by Shubham Shukla, Basic Education Officer. Additionally, the teacher involved in the incident has also been served a notice.

Furthermore, an Education Department representative highlighted that classes were being held within an unfinished building, lacking basic amenities like lights, fans, and proper divisions for different grade levels. Correspondingly, notices were sent to the Uttar Pradesh Education Board to withdraw recognition of the school.

The education department has said that it will relocate all 50 students of the school to a government school in the village or other schools within the district within a week.

The Muzaffarnagar School Incident
On August 25th, a video went viral on social media depicting a student being slapped by fellow students under the instructions of a teacher. This event occurred at Neha Public School in Khubbapur village, Muzaffarnagar district, Uttar Pradesh.

Reportedly, the incident transpired on August 24th when a student made an error in a multiplication table. The teacher, identified as Tripta Tyagi, who is also the owner of the school, instructed other students to slap the student who erred. The video showed the distressed student being slapped one by one by his classmates, leading to his tears.

Tyagi's comments in the video, urging the classmates to hit the student harder, attracted attention. Moreover, she made reference to 'Mohammedan students.'

In response to the incident, the affected Muslim student underwent a medical checkup in Meerut on Sunday due to his emotional distress. His parents indicated that he was back home and in a stable state.

When questioned about reaching a resolution with Tripta Tyagi, the student's father expressed an unwillingness to compromise.

Meanwhile, education department officials mentioned that the student could be enrolled in a government primary school if his family agrees to the arrangement.
