Mumbai Police Arrest Dawood Ibrahim Gang Member, Seize Firearm
Mumbai Police have arrested a 45-year-old member of the Dawood Ibrahim gang, Sachin Gajanan Shete, from suburban Oshiwara. Shete was wanted in several criminal cases, including murder, attempt to murder, and extortion.
In a significant development, the Mumbai Police have apprehended a 45-year-old member of the notorious Dawood Ibrahim gang, who was wanted in several criminal cases. The arrest was made on Tuesday from the suburban area of Oshiwara, based on specific intelligence gathered by Unit-9 of the Mumbai crime branch.

Modus Operandi and Recovery
The accused, identified as Sachin Gajanan Shete, was caught in a meticulously planned operation near a bus stop. During the arrest, the police successfully recovered a country-made pistol along with four live rounds from his possession. Subsequently, he was booked under the stringent provisions of the Arms Act.
Criminal History and Parole Violation
Upon interrogation, it was revealed that Shete had entered Mumbai with the intention of committing criminal activities in the coming days. Further investigation brought to light an outstanding case registered against him at the Mira Road Police Station in the neighboring Thane district. This case pertains to a parole violation that occurred in 2022.
Involvement in Heinous Crimes
Shete's criminal history extends beyond parole violation. He has been implicated in several serious offenses, including murder, attempt to murder, and extortion. In 2000, he was arrested for the murder of a trade union leader and subsequently sentenced to life imprisonment by a court.
Gang Affiliations and Prison Rivalry
While serving his sentence, Shete came into contact with members of the Dawood Ibrahim gang and eventually joined their ranks. His involvement in gang-related activities led to the murder of an inmate named John Dsouza in 2006, as part of an inter-gang rivalry that took place within Mumbai's Arthur Road jail.
Extortion and Shootout
Shete's criminal activities did not cease even after his release from prison. In 2008, he is accused of extorting money from a businessman and orchestrating a shootout at the businessman's showroom.
The arrest of Sachin Gajanan Shete by the Mumbai Police is a significant victory in the fight against organized crime. His apprehension not only prevents the potential commission of further criminal acts but also serves as a warning to other criminals that they cannot escape the long arm of the law.
