Steps for police verification for passports

The police verification phase is a crucial one in terms of security measures. The laws require a police verification to be done before the passport is issued.

After submitting the passport application, the details are sent to the local police station in the area where the applicant resides for verification. The police then conduct a background check and verify the information provided in the application form, such as name, date of birth and address.

Once the verification is completed, the police send the report to the passport office with their remarks. If the report is a favourable one, then the passport will be issued. The application is rejected if the police verification report is not favourable.
