Madhya Pradesh Cabinet Approves Rs 100-Crore Memorial for Rani Durgavati in Jabalpur

The Madhya Pradesh cabinet has sanctioned a Rs 100-crore project to establish a memorial and garden in honour of Gond queen Rani Durgavati. This decision was made during a meeting led by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav. Additionally, the cabinet approved the creation of the Jain Welfare Board. The ministers also visited Singrampur village in Damoh district to commemorate Rani Durgavati's 500th birth anniversary.

Rani Durgavati Memorial Approved in Jabalpur

The memorial and garden dedicated to Rani Durgavati will be constructed in Jabalpur, covering 24 acres on Madan Mahal hill. The committee responsible for this project includes Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Prahlad Patel, Public Works Department Minister Rakesh Singh, Tribal Affairs Minister Kunwar Vijay Shah, and Culture and Tourism Minister Dharmendra Lodhi.

Rani Durgavati's Legacy

Rani Durgavati was a prominent figure in the 16th century as the regent of Gondwana during her son Vir Narayan's minority. She is celebrated for her defence against the Mughal Empire. The memorial aims to honour her contributions and preserve her legacy for future generations.

The state government highlighted that the memorial will serve as a tribute to Rani Durgavati's bravery and leadership. It will also promote tourism and cultural heritage in the region. The project's location on Madan Mahal hill is significant due to its historical connections with the Gond kingdom.

Jain Welfare Board Initiative

The newly proposed Jain Welfare Board will focus on implementing state government schemes for educating talented children and youth from the Jain community. The board will consist of a chairman and two members, ensuring effective management and execution of educational initiatives.

Madhya Pradesh has a considerable Jain population, particularly along its western borders with Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Bundelkhand bordering Uttar Pradesh. The board aims to address educational needs within this community, fostering growth and development.

Demographic Context

According to the 2011 Census, Madhya Pradesh had over 1.53 crore tribals, making up 21.08% of the state's total population. This demographic context underscores the importance of initiatives like the Rani Durgavati memorial and the Jain Welfare Board in addressing diverse community needs.

The cabinet's decisions reflect a commitment to preserving cultural heritage while supporting educational advancement for minority communities. These projects are expected to have a lasting impact on both cultural preservation and community development in Madhya Pradesh.
