Monsoon Session Update: Rajya Sabha Discussion On Operation Sindoor Slated For July 29

The Monsoon Session of Parliament is set to feature a major discussion on Operation Sindoor, with the Lok Sabha scheduled to hold the debate on July 28, followed by the Rajya Sabha on July 29, according to sources. The government has allotted 16 hours for the Lok Sabha and 9 hours for the Rajya Sabha to discuss the operation, which was launched in response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam.

As per ANI, the decision on the timing was taken during a Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting of the Rajya Sabha held on Wednesday. Opposition parties have strongly demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi be present during the discussion, especially after recent international developments surrounding the operation.

PM Modi Likely to Intervene in Lok Sabha Debate

The debate in the Lok Sabha will take place on July 28, with a full 16-hour slot dedicated to Operation Sindoor. According to ANI sources, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to speak, while Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will provide the government's official response. The decision was reached following consensus among the parties.

The issue has gained further political significance after U.S. President Donald Trump claimed he had played a role in brokering a ceasefire between India and Pakistan - a claim the Opposition has used to intensify its demand for a full clarification from the government.

The first three days of the Monsoon Session - Monday through Wednesday - were marred by repeated adjournments due to protests by Opposition MPs, who insisted on immediate debate on both Operation Sindoor and the SIR (Special Investigation Report) findings in Bihar.

Details of Operation Sindoor

Operation Sindoor was launched by India on May 7 as a direct response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam. The military operation specifically targeted terrorist infrastructure located in areas under Pakistan's control. During the operation, over 100 terrorists affiliated with Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen were neutralized.

Following the Indian strikes, Pakistan retaliated with cross-border shelling and attempted drone incursions along the border in Jammu and Kashmir. In response, India carried out a coordinated counter-strike, targeting key installations including radar systems, communication centers, and airbases at 11 locations inside Pakistan.

The intense military exchange eventually led to a ceasefire agreement, which was formally announced on May 10.

As the debate approaches, Operation Sindoor continues to dominate both the domestic political landscape and international headlines, setting the stage for a highly charged discussion in Parliament.
