Monsoon Session Begins Today: INDIA Bloc To Corner Centre On Pahalgam Attack, SIR, Kashmir Issue

Political tensions are expected to soar as monsoon session in Parliament kicks off on July 21. The opposition's INDIA bloc is gearing up to launch a multi-pronged attack on the government, armed with a list of pressing issues.

During an online meeting on Saturday, leaders from 24 opposition parties devised a joint strategy to confront the government over at least eight significant issues. These include alleged foreign policy failures, atrocities in Gaza, and rising crimes against SCs, STs, women, and minorities. The bloc aims to highlight these concerns during the session.

Opposition To Target Govt On These Issues

CPI general secretary D Raja told PTI that the INDIA bloc will press for the restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. Other topics include 'One Nation, One Poll' and delimitation. The opposition plans to corner the government on these matters during the monsoon session.

The Pahalgam terror attack is another key issue for the opposition. Congress MP Pramod Tiwari emphasized its significance, stating it affects 140 crore people and relates to national honour. He criticised the lack of action against terrorists involved in the attack since April 22, highlighting an intelligence failure confession.

Electoral Roll Concerns in Bihar

The INDIA bloc has expressed concern over Bihar's electoral roll revision exercise. Opposition parties allege it is being used to disenfranchise marginalised communities. Tiwari described this as a threat to voting rights under an "undeclared Emergency," comparing it to past currency demonetisation efforts.

The government has shown willingness to discuss Operation Sindoor in Parliament. However, sources from PTI suggest Prime Minister Narendra Modi may not address these issues directly. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is expected to provide a detailed statement on Operation Sindoor during the session.

Government's Stance on Key Issues

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju has assured that the government would respond appropriately during discussions on US President Donald Trump's remarks about mediating an India-Pakistan ceasefire. The INDIA bloc also demands Modi's response on Trump's claims and Bihar's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

Take a Poll

The opposition remains determined to hold the government accountable for various issues during this parliamentary session. Their strategy involves raising critical topics such as national security, electoral integrity, and regional autonomy while seeking direct responses from key government figures.
