Meet TDP MP Kinjarappu Ram Mohan Naidu, Youngest-Ever Cabinet Minister In Modi 3.0

Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu, a three-time MP from Andhra Pradesh's Srikakulam constituency, is set to become the youngest Cabinet minister in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government. Born into a political family, Naidu is the son of the late K Yerran Naidu, a former Union Minister.

Ram Mohan Naidu first entered politics following the demise of his father in a road accident on November 2, 2012. He was working in Singapore back then after pursuing electrical engineering from Purdue University and an MBA from Long Island University.

In 2014, at the age of 26, he contested the Srikakulam Lok Sabha seat for the first time. He swept the polls with a victory margin of 327,901 votes against YSRCP's Perada Tilak and become the second-youngest MP.

The youth leader holds a prominent role in TDP as the national general secretary, and was the floor leader for the party in the Lok Sabha. His rise within the party has been significantly influenced by his close association with TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu.

During his tenure as an MP, he was an active participant in various Parliamentary standing committees. His diligent work and dedication earned him the 'Sansad Ratna Award' in 2020.

Progressive initiatives

Naidu is known for his progressive views, especially concerning gender equality and social issues. In 2021, he made headlines by requesting nine days of paternity leave during the Budget Session, emphasising the importance of shared parenting responsibilities.

In his letter to the Lok Sabha Speaker, he highlighted that childcare should not be solely the mother's responsibility and expressed his desire to be an equal partner in raising his child.

Moreover, he has been a vocal advocate for menstrual health education and sex education in Parliament, being one of the first MPs to endorse these issues. He has also campaigned for the removal of GST on sanitary pads, promoting accessible menstrual hygiene products.

As Narendra Modi prepares to be sworn in for his third term as PM, Ram Mohan Naidu, along with Dr Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, is confirmed to be part of the new Cabinet from the TDP. Naidu, at 36, will become the youngest Cabinet minister in Modi-led NDA government.
