Manoj Jarange Faces Charges for Defamatory Comments Against Dhananjay Munde in Maharashtra
Authorities in Maharashtra's Beed district have filed a case against Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange. He is accused of making defamatory comments about minister Dhananjay Munde and inciting division between communities, according to an official. The complaint was lodged by Tukaram Aghav at the Parli police station.

During a rally in Parbhani, Jarange criticised NCP minister Munde regarding the murder of Santosh Deshmukh, a sarpanch from Beed. Jarange warned that the Maratha community would not tolerate Munde if Deshmukh's family faced harm. This statement angered Munde's supporters, who demanded legal action against Jarange and protested outside the Shivajinagar Police station in Beed.
Investigation into Deshmukh's Murder
Santosh Deshmukh, the sarpanch of Massajog village in Beed district, was abducted, tortured, and killed on December 9. His murder is believed to be linked to his efforts to prevent extortion from an energy company operating a windmill project. So far, seven individuals have been arrested in connection with his murder.
The case has taken on a caste-related dimension as Deshmukh belonged to the Maratha community, while most of the accused are from the Vanjari community, which holds significant influence in the Beed region. This has added complexity to the investigation.
Role of Special Investigation Team
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) from the Crime Investigation Department (CID) is currently examining the case. The SIT aims to uncover all aspects of this incident and ensure justice is served. The involvement of Walmik Karad, an associate of Munde, has also been noted in the extortion case related to this matter.
The ongoing investigation seeks to address both the criminal and social implications of this case. Authorities are working to resolve tensions between communities while ensuring those responsible for Deshmukh's death are held accountable.
