Man Receives Life Imprisonment for Murdering His Teen Sister in Gonda District

A man was sentenced to life imprisonment for murdering his 16-year-old sister over a family dispute in Gonda. The court confirmed the act was proven beyond reasonable doubt.

A man received a life sentence and a Rs 1 lakh fine for killing his teenage sister five years ago. The incident occurred in Kishundaspur village, Gonda district, on May 13, 2020. The case involved a family dispute that led to the tragic death of the 16-year-old girl.

Former village head Narendra Bahadur Singh filed an FIR accusing Ramkumar and his son Shivmangal of murdering Shivkumari. The accusation stemmed from a family argument that escalated into violence. The girl's body was buried near a riverbank, prompting further investigation.

Investigation and Evidence

The district magistrate ordered the exhumation of the body, which revealed a severe head injury as the cause of death. During the investigation, it was discovered that Shivmangal had struck his sister with a stick after an argument over a mobile phone. This act resulted in her immediate death.

Police arrested Shivmangal and filed charges against him on June 17, 2020. The court proceedings involved examining evidence, witness statements, and arguments from both sides. Despite all prosecution witnesses turning hostile due to familial ties, circumstantial and documentary evidence proved crucial.

Court's Verdict

Additional Sessions Judge Rajesh Kumar found Shivmangal guilty after reviewing all evidence. The court described the act as a crime of the rarest kind, highlighting the brutality of killing one's own sister. Despite pleas for leniency from the defence, the court imposed life imprisonment with hard labour.

The court noted that although witnesses turned hostile, sufficient evidence established Shivmangal's guilt beyond reasonable doubt. Assistant District Government Counsel Criminal Amit Pathak confirmed that the prosecution successfully proved its case.

This verdict underscores the severity of domestic violence cases and highlights the importance of justice in such tragic incidents. The judgement serves as a reminder of the consequences of violent actions within families.
