Man Sentenced to 19 Months in Prison for Posting Partner's Explicit Photos on Social Media

A man from Uttar Pradesh has been sentenced to 19 months in prison for posting explicit photos of his partner on social media and assaulting her. He was fined Rs 25,000 and convicted under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code.

A man has been sentenced to 19 months of rigorous imprisonment for posting an explicit photo of a woman on social media and assaulting her, according to a government official. The sentencing was delivered by Special Judge, SC/ST Act, and District and Sessions Judge, Tehri, Amit Kumar Sirohi. The court found Deepak Singh guilty under Section 323 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 67 of the Information Technology Act.

Deepak Singh, who is from Mansoorpur in Muzaffarnagar district, Uttar Pradesh, was also fined Rs 25,000. If he fails to pay this amount, he will face an additional month in jail. However, the court acquitted him under the Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe Act. The complaint against him was lodged at Narendranagar Police Station on January 29, 2020.

Details of the Case

The woman involved in the case met Deepak Singh through Shaadi.com in November 2019 after her husband's death in a road accident in 2018. She alleged that Deepak appeared trustworthy initially, which led them to become close. Unbeknownst to her, Deepak had been secretly taking her private photos during their relationship.

As their relationship progressed, Deepak began to exhibit aggressive behaviour. He started arguments over trivial matters and physically assaulted her. When she refused his marriage proposal, he reacted violently by snatching her mobile phone and using an explicit photo of her as his WhatsApp display picture.

Social Media Exploitation

The woman further accused Deepak of creating a fake Facebook account using her mother's name. On this account, he posted photos of her, her sister, and her mother with inappropriate captions. These actions were part of a series of harassments that led to the legal proceedings against him.

District Government Advocate Swarajya Singh Panwar provided details about the case and the court's decision. The woman's allegations highlighted how Deepak's actions escalated from personal disputes to public humiliation through social media exploitation.

This case underscores the serious consequences of cybercrimes and personal assaults. It also highlights the legal recourse available for victims seeking justice against such violations. The court's decision serves as a reminder of the importance of respecting privacy and the law's role in protecting individuals from digital harassment.
