Maharashtra Doctor Suicide Case: Accused Landlord’s Son Prashant Bankar Held by Police

A major development has been reported in the Satara doctor suicide case, as Maharashtra Police have arrested Prashant Bankar, one of the two accused linked to the tragic death of a 29-year-old woman doctor in Phaltan taluka.

Police Arrest One Accused, Hunt for Another Continues

Confirming the arrest, Satara Superintendent of Police Tushar Doshi told ANI that "Prashant Bankar will be produced in court on Saturday."

Authorities said that the second accused, police sub-inspector Gopal Badne, remains on the run, and efforts are underway to trace him. The police have also suspended the PSI for his alleged involvement in the case.

Shocking Allegations Found in Doctor's Suicide Note

The investigation revealed a disturbing note written in Marathi on the deceased doctor's palm. In it, she accused PSI Gopal Badane of raping her four times, and alleged that her landlord's son, Prashant Bankar, "physically and mentally harassed her for five months."

According to police sources, media reports confirmed that the note was found on her palm. The doctor, who was serving as a medical officer on contract at a government hospital in Phaltan, was found hanging inside a hotel room on Thursday night.

Victim and Accused Were Related, Say Investigators

A police officer involved in the investigation said that the victim and the suspended PSI were related and both hailed from Beed district.

"Based on the complaint lodged by the victim's family, we have registered an FIR against PSI Badane and Prashant Bankar on charges of rape and abetment to suicide," a media report quoted SP Tushar Doshi, adding that the body was sent for post-mortem examination.

Political Leaders Demand Independent Probe

The shocking allegations have sparked outrage across Maharashtra. Leaders from multiple political parties have called for a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to independently probe the circumstances surrounding the woman doctor's death.
