Mahakumbh Mela 2025: 48 Special Trains Announced For Devotees Ahead Of Mauni Amavasya
To accommodate the large number of pilgrims attending the Mahakumbh Mela 2025 in Prayagraj, the Northern Railway Lucknow Division announced on Saturday the operation of 48 special trains. These trains are a response to the expected influx of devotees for 'Mauni Amavasya' on January 29, ensuring their journey to the auspicious confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers is smooth. This initiative aims to facilitate the travel of millions to one of the most revered spiritual gatherings, with services running until the end of February.
Amid the fervor of the ongoing Mahakumbh Mela, the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Lucknow, Satyendra Mohan Sharma, shared insights into the rail operations designed for the event. Sharma outlined that, in addition to the 48 special trains specifically scheduled for Mauni Amavasya, there are already 11 regular special trains serving short distances. These routes connect key locations such as Ayodhya, Lucknow, Jaunpur, and Banaras, enhancing connectivity for pilgrims. Sharma also detailed the introduction of ring rails from Prayagraj, including a new service linking Prayagraj, Ayodhya, and Lucknow, further emphasizing the railway's commitment to supporting the massive pilgrimage.

Enhanced Rail Services for Mahakumbh Attendees
The announcement of these additional trains coincides with an extraordinary congregation of devotees at the Mahakumbh Mela. The Uttar Pradesh government highlighted this massive turnout, revealing that over 10.80 crore devotees have taken part in the sacred ritual of bathing at the Triveni Sangam as of Friday. This remarkable figure underscores the significance of the Mahakumbh Mela, marking it as a historic event in India. The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh recognized this achievement, expressing pride in the vast number of visitors earning merit through their participation.
As part of the preparations for the anticipated Mauni Amavasya, authorities are ensuring that the infrastructure and facilities are in place to manage the expected crowds. The Mahakumbh Mela, a pivotal event held every 12 years, draws visitors from across the globe. They come not only for spiritual purification but also to experience the unique convergence of diverse cultures, languages, and traditions at the Sangam. This gathering for the holy dip, believed to cleanse sins and offer liberation, is a testament to the enduring relevance of Sanatan Dharma and its rituals.
A Gathering of Faith and Tradition
The Mahakumbh Mela 2025 in Prayagraj represents a significant period in the Hindu calendar, attracting devotees keen to partake in the holy dip at the Sangam.
