The grand Mahakumbh Mela 2025 has officially begun, attracting millions of devotees to the sacred Triveni Sangam, the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mystical Saraswati rivers. Among the most anticipated events of the Maha Kumbh is the first 'Amrit Snan' (holy dip), scheduled to take place on Makar Sankranti, January 14, 2025. This ritual is a pivotal moment in the festival, with all 13 Akharas of Sanatan Dharma participating in this sacred bath, which is believed to purify sins and grant spiritual blessings.

Significance of the Amrit Snan

The Amrit Snan is a key event during the Kumbh Mela, especially on Makar Sankranti. It is believed that bathing in the holy waters during this time brings immense spiritual benefits, cleansing devotees of their sins and paving the way for a virtuous life. For the first time in years, all 13 Akharas of Sanatan Dharma will take part in this significant ritual, marking the start of the auspicious Amrit Snan. The Uttar Pradesh government has released a detailed schedule for the bathing sequence of the Akharas.

Schedule for Amrit Snan for the 13 Akharas

First Group: Shri Panchayati Akhara Mahanirvani and Shri Shambhu Panchayati Atal Akhara

  • Departure from camp: 5:15 AM
  • Arrival at Triveni Sangam: 6:15 AM
  • Time for Bathing: 40 minutes
  • Departure from ghat: 6:55 AM
  • Return to camp: 7:55 AM

Second Group: Shri Taponidhi Panchayati Shri Niranjani Akhara and Shri Panchayati Akhara Anand

  • Departure from camp: 6:05 AM
  • Arrival at ghat: 7:05 AM
  • Time for Bathing: 40 minutes
  • Departure from ghat: 7:45 AM
  • Return to camp: 8:45 AM

Third Group: Shri Panchdashnam Juna Akhara, Shri Panchdashnam Aawahan Akhara, and Shri Panchagni Akhara

  • Departure from camp: 7:00 AM
  • Arrival at ghat: 8:00 AM
  • Time for Bathing: 40 minutes
  • Departure from ghat: 8:40 AM
  • Return to camp: 9:40 AM

Bairagi Akharas:

  • All India Shri Panch Nirmohi Ani Akhara: Departs at 9:40 AM, arrives at 10:40 AM, departs at 11:10 AM, returns by 12:10 PM.
  • All India Shri Panch Digambar Ani Akhara: Departs at 10:20 AM, arrives at 11:20 AM, departs at 12:10 PM, returns by 1:10 PM.
  • All India Shri Panch Nirvani Ani Akhara: Departs at 11:20 AM, arrives at 12:20 PM, departs at 12:50 PM, returns by 1:50 PM.

Udasin Akharas:

  • Shri Panchayati Naya Udasin Akhara: Departs at 12:15 PM, arrives at 1:15 PM, departs at 2:10 PM, returns by 3:10 PM.
  • Shri Panchayati Akhara, Naya Udasin, Nirvana: Departs at 1:20 PM, arrives at 2:20 PM, departs at 3:20 PM, returns by 4:20 PM.
  • Shri Panchayati Nirmal Akhara: Departs at 2:40 PM, arrives at 3:40 PM, departs at 4:20 PM, returns by 5:20 PM.

This first Amrit Snan marks the beginning of the grand spiritual gathering that will continue for the duration of the Mahakumbh Mela 2025. The presence of these 13 Akharas, each with its distinct rituals and spiritual significance, makes this event a major highlight of the festival.
