Maha CM Fadnavis cuts costs to govt, takes economy class flight to Nagpur, pays for tickets

Devendra Fadnavis
Nagpur, Nov 3: In an attempt to cut maximum possible costs to the government, newly appointed chief minister of Maharashtra-Devendra Fadnavis-took an economy class flight with his family to Nagpur. Indeed, a commendable move, especially when his state will have to repay a loan of Rs 3 lakh crore.

He took the Jet Airways flight, bypassing the chartered flights and also paid for his own tickets. His co-passengers were delighted with him.

"This is happening for the first time in the history of Maharashtra. Never before has a chief minister travelled on a passenger flight and paid his own expenses. This is a good omen for the state."

This was in sync with Narendra Modi's instructions at the centre that bureaucrats should avoid travelling in first class and that government functions should not be held in five-star hotels. The Prime Minister had clearly stated that bureaucrats should forego luxury seats in planes and should also pay for their spouses.

Fadnavis had earlier said,"RSS upbringing makes me live modestly, simply. It will be the end of Devendra Fadnavis if power goes to my head."

BJP workers too pulled stops at the welcome celebrations of Fadnavis. A party worker said,"We are proud of him. We paid for this welcome from our personal funds."
