MP Elects 205 Crorepatis In 230-Member Assembly

Newly elected BJP MLA from Ratlam City, Chaitanya Kashyap, tops the list with declared assets worth Rs 296 crore, while his party colleague Sanjay Satyendra Pathak Vijayraghavgarh was at the second spot with Rs 242 crore assets.

In a recent revelation, it has come to light that a staggering 205 out of the 230 newly elected Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs) in Madhya Pradesh are crorepatis, indicating a significant concentration of wealth among the state's lawmakers. This information was unveiled in a report published by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), shedding light on the financial status of the elected representatives.

BJP Dominates the Crorepati MLA List

MP Elects 205 Crorepatis In 230-Member Assembly

Among the crorepatis, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) holds a commanding lead, with 144 of its MLAs falling into this category. The Congress, on the other hand, has 61 crorepatis among its ranks. This disparity reflects the BJP's dominance in the recently concluded Madhya Pradesh assembly polls, where the party secured a resounding victory by winning 163 seats, a significant increase from its tally of 109 in 2018.

Top Three Wealthiest MLAs

The distinction of being the wealthiest MLA goes to Chaitanya Kashyap, a BJP representative from Ratlam City. Kashyap's declared assets are valued at an impressive Rs 296 crore, making him the richest lawmaker in the state. He is closely followed by Sanjay Satyendra Pathak Vijayraghavgarh, another BJP MLA, who possesses assets worth Rs 242 crore. State Congress president Kamal Nath completes the top three, with declared assets exceeding Rs 134 crore.

Lowest Assets Among MLAs

In contrast to the staggering wealth of some MLAs, there are a few who have declared relatively modest assets. Kamlesh Dodiyar, the winning candidate from the Bharat Adivasi Party, holds the distinction of having the lowest assets among the newly elected MLAs. Dodiyar's declared assets amount to a mere Rs 18 lakh. Other MLAs with low assets include Santosh Varkade Sihora of the BJP, with assets worth Rs 25 lakh, and Kanchan Mukesh Tanve Khandwa, also from the BJP, whose assets total Rs 26 lakh.

High Liabilities Among MLAs

While some MLAs boast substantial assets, others are burdened with significant liabilities. Former BJP minister Surendra Patwa Bhojpur tops the list of MLAs with the highest liabilities, carrying a debt of Rs 57 crore. Dinesh Jain Mahidpur of the Congress occupies the second position with liabilities amounting to Rs 30 crore, followed by Bhupendra Singh Khurai of the BJP, who has declared liabilities of Rs 23 crore.

Average Assets and Distribution

On average, the newly elected MLAs in Madhya Pradesh possess assets worth Rs 11.77 crore, indicating a rise from the average of Rs 10.17 crore recorded in 2018. Furthermore, 102 MLAs have declared assets exceeding Rs 5 crore, while 71 legislators have assets ranging between Rs 2 crore and Rs 5 crore. Additionally, 48 MLAs have declared assets between Rs 50 lakh and Rs 2 crore, and nine elected MLAs own assets below Rs 50 lakh.

The revelation of the financial status of Madhya Pradesh's newly elected MLAs highlights the significant wealth disparities among the state's lawmakers. While some MLAs possess substantial assets and liabilities, others have declared relatively modest financial holdings. These findings underscore the need for transparency and accountability in the political arena, ensuring that the interests of the public are prioritized over personal wealth.
