Kolkata Horror: Two Women Caught Dumping Suitcase With Dead Body At Ganga Ghat

A seemingly ordinary morning on the ghats of the Ganga in Kolkata, near Kumartuli, turned into a scene of horror for a group of locals gathered for their daily yoga session.

Kumartuli, known as a hub for sculptors crafting idols for Durga Puja, remains a quiet neighbourhood for most of the year. However, at around 7:30 am today, an unsettling sight unfolded.

A group of men noticed two women stepping out of a white and blue taxi, carrying a purple trolley suitcase.

The pair struggled to move it towards the river, which immediately aroused suspicion among the yoga practitioners. Sensing something amiss, they approached the women and began questioning them.

The women were evasive and refused to let anyone touch the suitcase. Growing increasingly doubtful, the locals alerted a nearby police officer. What followed left everyone in shock.

Inside the suitcase, wrapped in bloodstained clothes, lay the body of a woman.

"They refused to open the case and told us that it had the body of their dog, a labrador," said Raja Sau, who runs the yoga camp. "We could not believe it. How much can a lab weigh? 30 or 40 kilos? How could they not drag the suitcase between the two of them? And it was a trolley too."

This exchange lasted over half an hour, drawing a crowd of more than 50 people.

"With everyone grilling them, one of the women said it had the body of the girl's sister-in-law who had committed suicide. But if that was the case, how could they dispose of it like that? One takes such a person to the hospital, calls in the police," Sau added.

Once the woman admitted that the suitcase contained a dead body, the local policeman called for reinforcements.

The police arrested the women at the scene and identified them as Falguni Ghosh and her mother, Aarati Ghosh. The deceased woman was Sumita Ghosh, Falguni's aunt-in-law.

Locals claimed a train ticket was found on the two women. Initially, it was believed they had travelled from Kazipara to Kumartuli by train. However, police later obtained CCTV footage from Madhyamgram, near Kolkata, showing them transporting the suitcase in a cart to a taxi stand before taking a cab directly to Kumartuli.

According to sources, the women were residents of Madhyamgram. Preliminary investigations revealed that they had been living in a rented accommodation there for over two years.

Local residents reported that strangers were frequently seen visiting the house at night, though few details were known as the family largely kept to themselves.

A few days ago, a woman was spotted visiting the house at night, sources said. Further investigations are underway.

This shocking discovery comes shortly after the horrific triple murder in Tangra. Last week, two women and a girl were found dead in a house after the men of the family crashed a car on Kolkata's Eastern Metropolitan Bypass in the early hours.

The two men-Pranay and Prasun Dey-had initially claimed they were attempting suicide, stating that the women had already taken their own lives.

However, police now assert that the women-their wives and the daughter of one-were murdered, and the men were responsible. Arrests will be made once they recover from their injuries.
