Kerala businessman Mohammad Nisham gets life term for mowing down guard

Thrissur, Jan 21: In a much-awaited verdict, Kerala's beedi tycoon Mohammad Nisham was on Thursday, Jan 21, sentenced to life term by court on charges of mowing down a security guard in Feb 2015. Now, he will spend 38 years of his life behind bars.

On Wednesday, Jan 20, the court convicted a businessman of running down a security guard with his car in a fit of rage. The court's fast-track judgement ensured that the poor guard's family got justice in time.

Additional District and Sessions Judge K.P. Sudhir, who had on Wednesday pronounced Mohammed Nisham guilty, on Thursday also fined him Rs 70 lakh.

The prosecution had said that Nisham rammed his Hummer vehicle into 47-year-old Chandra Bose on December 29, 2014, and also beat him up. Bose was working as a security guard in a posh residential complex near here.

After battling for life for 48 days at a hospital, Bose succumbed to his injuries on February 15, last year.

The Kerala government had announced a government job for Bose's wife.

Owner of the Kings Group of Companies, Nisham courted controversy after his seven-year-old son's photograph driving his car was put up on social media. In another case, he allegedly abused a woman police official for checking his vehicle.
