Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 21: As the residents of Kerala have come out in the open to voice their anger against the recent kidnapping and molestation of a popular Malayalam actress, the National Commission for Women on Monday sought a report from the state on the action taken so far in the horrific incident.

"It is a shocking incident. We have asked for a report from the office of the Kerala State Police Chief. The investigation will be reviewed," said chairperson of NCW Lalitha Kumaramangalam.

Reports say the NCW has summoned State Police Chief and DGP Loknath Behera to review the ongoing probe into the abduction and sexual assault case of the actress. Kumaramangalam has asked the police chief to submit a report before the commission within a week.

Kumaramangalam has hinted that the members of the commission might visit Kerala to collect evidence, in order to punish the guilty. "If necessary, we will visit the state to collect evidence," she said.

As a part of its internal probe, members of the commission have already contacted director and actor Lal, who assisted the victim to lodge a police complaint.

The actress was allegedly kidnapped and sexually abused by her driver and his accomplices while she was returning home from a film shoot. According to reports, two arrested accused have been sent to a 14-day judicial custody by court in Aluva.
