Delhi LG VK Saxena Condemns Kejriwal's Objectionable Claims on Yamuna Poisoning and Genocide
Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has addressed a letter to Chief Minister Atishi, criticising AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal's claims about the Yamuna River. Kejriwal accused the BJP-led Haryana government of poisoning the river and attempting genocide in Delhi. Saxena described these allegations as highly objectionable and a threat to national security.

According to Saxena, Kejriwal's statements are not only misleading but also dangerous. They could incite public unrest and create animosity between Delhi and Haryana. The LG emphasised that such accusations over sensitive issues like drinking water can threaten both state and national peace.
Political Tensions Over Water Crisis
The controversy intensified when Kejriwal accused Haryana of biological warfare. In a social media post, he claimed, "Poison is being mixed into the Yamuna to make its water untreatable. If people in Delhi consume this water, many will die. This is nothing short of mass murder." These remarks have sparked political tensions between the two states.
Saxena also criticised Atishi for not condemning Kejriwal's statements. Instead, she wrote to the Election Commission, which Saxena believes only added to public confusion and fear. He stressed that as Delhi's chief minister, Atishi has a constitutional duty to uphold public interests and maintain political integrity.
Ammonia Levels in Yamuna
A report from the Delhi Jal Board CEO highlighted fluctuating ammonia levels in the Yamuna during winter months. On December 31, 2024, ammonia levels ranged from 7.5-10 mg/l, decreasing to 6.8-7.2 mg/l by January 27, 2025. Saxena questioned why Kejriwal remained silent when levels were highest in December but made false accusations after they decreased.
Saxena urged Atishi to rise above narrow interests and avoid making misleading statements. He advised her to counsel the AAP convenor similarly for public welfare and peace. The LG warned that such rhetoric could lead to serious law and order challenges for both Delhi and Haryana governments.
No immediate response was available from the Aam Aadmi Party regarding Saxena's letter. The situation remains tense as political leaders navigate the implications of these serious allegations.
