Karnataka: With no safety gear, two men fall into borewell, die

Two people lost their life after falling into a 40-feet borewell in Gadag district on Karnataka. 32-year-old Basavraj and 30-year-old Shankarappa were engaged in removing pipes from a defunct borewell in Rona taluk's Savadi village when they fell and got trapped inside. The men were working in hazardous conditions without safety equipment or gear.

The local police, fire and emergency service personnel were alerted following which a rescue operation was initiated. after hours of digging a parallel route to rescue the duo, the rescue teams could only bring back dead bodies. Families of the two deceased were inconsolable as sole breadwinners of the family were lost to sheet apathy and carelessness.

The local police registered a case. The body of Basavaraj was found broken into two by authorities.
