Karnataka election survey: Congress to play spoilsport for CP Yogeshwara in Channapatna

Former Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy is hoping for yet another win in the Channapatna Assembly constituency in the forthcoming Karnataka Assembly Elections.

Karnataka election survey: Congress to play spoilsport for CP Yogeshwara in Channapatna

With the former CM announcing that the 2023 polls will be his last election, the atmosphere seems to be in his favour in the Channapatna constituency.

On the other hand, the BJP is hoping to boost its seat tally in the old Mysuru region in the upcoming Karnataka polls and the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who inaugurated the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway recently, has come as a boost to the party workers.

And Channapatna is one of the constituencies where the BJP thinks that it could win with a little bit of luck.

Will HDK Retain Channapatna?
Even as the dates for the polls are yet to be announced, a survey conducted by Lok Poll has projected that HD Kumaraswamy will emerge victorious in Channapatna.

HD Kumaraswamy is predicted to get 45 per cent vote share while BJP is predicted to get 39 per cent votes, the survey said. The Congress and other parties are likely to garner over 13 per cent votes.

The survey claims that the Congress is playing a spoilsport for the BJP candidate CP Yogeshwara in Channapatna even though the district witnessed relatively less development during HDK's tenure than the previous MLA.

Party hopper CP Yogeshwara was first elected from this constituency in 1999 as an independent candidate and five years later from the Congress ticket. He won from this constituency in 2011 and 2013 but lost to HD Kumaraswamy in 2018.

With anti-incumbency and corruption issues hitting BJP's image in the state, it would not be easy for Yogeshwara, who has been hoping to become a strong Vokkaliga face in the BJP, to emerge victorious.

However, the survey conducted by Lok Poll has claimed that Congress will come to power by winning 116-122 seats.
