Karnataka bypolls: Yeddyurappa gives money to farmer's family, Congress alleges violation
The president of the BJP unit in Karnataka, B S Yeddyurappa was caught on camera handing out money to the family of a deceased farmer from Mandya. In a video that surfaced on Saturday, B S Yeddyurappa is seen handing out cash to the family of a farmer who committed suicide over drought and debts earlier in April. While the BJP maintain that it was compensation, the Congress ahs alleged that the leader violated the model code of conduct that is in place for the bypolls.

The video that has been making the rounds, shows B S Yeddyurappa giving Rs 1 lakh to the family of Shivanna, a farmer from Mandya who committed suicide. While the compensation is not the issue, the fact that the money was handed over to the family in Gundlupet where bypolls will be held on Sunday has emerged as the bone of the contention. B S Yeddyurappa handed over the money to the family who had visited Gundlupet where he has been campaigning for the bypolls.

The Congress has deemed his action a violation of model code of conduct that has been implemented ahead of the Nanjangud and Gundlupet bypoll. While no official complaint has been filed with the election commission in this regard, it hasn't stopped the Congress including its state working president from sharing the video.
