Jharkhand CM Directs Swift Action to Safeguard Tribal Land Rights
In a decisive move to protect the rights of tribals in Jharkhand, Chief Minister Champai Soren has issued a directive for officials to ensure the swift handover of land to tribals in cases where court decrees favor them. This announcement came during a high-level meeting focused on reviewing the operations of various departments.

Highlighting the plight of Scheduled Tribes (STs) as among the most marginalized groups, Soren emphasized the need for expedited resolution of cases under the SC-ST Act. The Chief Minister's office released a statement detailing his instructions, which also included measures to ensure that government scheme benefits are promptly delivered to the families of soldiers who have died in service.
Soren's directives didn't stop at land rights and legal matters. He addressed the need for improved law and order, specifically instructing the police to mitigate any inconvenience to civilians caused by security camps in Naxal-affected regions. The Chief Minister stressed on stringent crime control measures, urging for enhanced patrolling and continuous monitoring to deter criminal activities, including drug trafficking around educational institutions.
The issue of drug trafficking has been a significant concern, with recent criticisms from the Jharkhand High Court regarding the state government's handling of the matter. Soren's response includes a crackdown on illegal opium cultivation and strict action against those involved in narcotics around schools and colleges.
Additionally, Soren turned his attention to economic matters, particularly illegal mining and the illicit liquor trade. He called for an end to unauthorized mining activities and expressed concern over revenue loss due to illegal alcohol sales, highlighting the need for stringent measures against these practices.
The Chief Minister's comprehensive directives reflect a multi-faceted approach to governance, addressing social justice, law and order, and economic issues with equal urgency. This move is seen as a significant step towards ensuring justice and development for the tribal population in Jharkhand.
