Jammu & Kashmir: Srinagar Airport Police Detain NC Leader Bashir Ahmad Veeri, Bullets Recovered From His Bag

National Conference leader Bashir Ahmad Veeri, recently elected as the MLA for Bijbehara, was detained at Srinagar airport on Sunday. According to the reports, Sri Nagar Airport Police found two live bullets in his bag. It was learned that Bashir holds a valid arms license, and the bullets were accidentally left in his luggage.

Following this incident, he was taken to Humhama Police Station. Authorities are requesting him to provide his arms license for verification. The situation arose shortly after Bashir's electoral victory in the Srigufwara-Bijbehara constituency.

Election Victory and Constituency Details

Bashir secured his seat by garnering 33,299 votes, defeating Iltija Mehbooba Mufti of the PDP. This victory came during the recent elections held on September 18. The Srigufwara-Bijbehara constituency is one of 90 seats contested in Jammu and Kashmir's phased elections.

In the 2014 Assembly elections, Abdul Rehman Bhat from the Jammu and Kashmir People's Democratic Party (JKPDP) won this seat. He defeated Bashir Ahmad Shah from the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (NC) by 2,868 votes. The constituency is part of the Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha area.

The discovery of bullets in Bashir's bag has raised questions about security protocols at airports. It also highlights the importance of ensuring all personal belongings comply with safety regulations before travel.
