New Delhi: The Ministry of Jal Shakti organized an event called Jal Itihas Utsav at Shamsi Talab, Jahaz Mahal in Mehrauli on Friday. The primary goal of the event was to raise awareness among the public about safeguarding water heritage sites, instilling a sense of ownership among the masses, and promoting tourism and restoration of such heritage structures.

Jal Shakti Ministry Takes Up Revival Of Water Heritage Sites Across India

Revival of Water Heritage

Union Minister for Jal Shakti, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, addressed the media and highlighted the ministry's efforts, along with various state governments and institutions, to revive the water heritage of the country and restore the sources that have sustained life for centuries. During the Amrit Kaal, a total of 75 ponds and reservoirs were identified across India, and a comprehensive restoration program was undertaken.

Shamsi Pond Renovation

One of the key highlights of the event was the renovation of Shamsi Pond, which is over 800 years old. The Ministry of Jal Shakti played a pivotal role in restoring this ancient water body. Shekhawat expressed hope that the program would inspire nearby communities to take ownership of the pond's conservation and actively participate in its preservation.

Promoting Water Conservation

Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena, who graced the occasion, emphasized the importance of water conservation and lauded the ministry's efforts in restoring water bodies across the country. He shared his personal passion for the cause and highlighted his endeavors to rejuvenate water bodies like the Yamuna, Najafgarh-Sahibi, Sanjay Lake, and Anagtal Baoli in Delhi.

Cultural Program

The event also featured a cultural program that showcased the rich heritage and traditions associated with water. Lieutenant Governor Saxena appreciated the performances and encouraged everyone to unite and work together for better water management. He emphasized the need to be waterwise and support Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of water conservation.

The Jal Itihas Utsav served as a platform to raise awareness about the importance of preserving our water heritage and promoting sustainable water management practices. By engaging the public, creating a sense of ownership, and promoting restoration efforts, the event aimed to safeguard these invaluable water heritage sites for future generations.
