Jaipur Metro News: ₹13,000-Crore Boost for Jaipur Metro as Cabinet Clears Phase-2 Expansion

Jaipur Metro News: The Union Cabinet of India, chaired by Narendra Modi, has approved Phase-2 of the Jaipur Metro, paving the way for a major expansion of the city's public transport network.

The project involves building a 41-km metro corridor with 36 stations, with a total investment of ₹13,037.66 crore, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced on Wednesday.

Jaipur Metro North-South corridor planned across Jaipur

The newly approved line will run along a North-South corridor from Prahladpura to Todi Mod, significantly improving connectivity across key parts of the city.

The project will be implemented by Rajasthan Metro Rail Corporation Limited (RMRCL), which is a joint venture between the Government of India and the Government of Rajasthan with equal stake.

Jaipur Metro to link key areas of the city

Once completed, the new corridor is expected to connect several important locations in Jaipur, including industrial zones, residential areas and major public facilities.

Key locations that will benefit include:

• Sitapura Industrial Area
• Vishwakarma Industrial Area (VKIA)
• Jaipur International Airport
• Tonk Road
• Sawai Man Singh Hospital and SMS Stadium
• Ambabari
• Vidhyadhar Nagar

Some of the stations near the airport will be underground, while the corridor will also connect with the existing Phase-1 metro line through interchanges and feeder services, helping create a seamless metro network in the city.

Update on Rajasthan refinery project

Alongside the metro approval, the cabinet also cleared **revisions in cost and equity investment for the HPCL Rajasthan Refinery Limited project at Pachpadra in Balotra district.

According to Vaishnaw, the refinery will add 9 million metric tonnes per annum to India's refining capacity, which currently stands at 258 million metric tonnes.

Commercial operations at the refinery are expected to begin in July 2026, and the project is estimated to generate around 10,000 direct jobs. Officials also highlighted that the refinery has been designed to operate with zero liquid discharge technology.

Fertiliser subsidy for Kharif season

The cabinet also approved a ₹41,534-crore subsidy package under the Nutrient Based Subsidy (NBS) scheme for the Kharif 2026 season, aimed at ensuring stable fertiliser prices for farmers despite fluctuations in global markets.
