According to Vaishnaw, the refinery will add 9 million metric tonnes per annum to India's refining capacity, which currently stands at 258 million metric tonnes.
Commercial operations at the refinery are expected to begin in July 2026, and the project is estimated to generate around 10,000 direct jobs. Officials also highlighted that the refinery has been designed to operate with zero liquid discharge technology.
Fertiliser subsidy for Kharif season
The cabinet also approved a ₹41,534-crore subsidy package under the Nutrient Based Subsidy (NBS) scheme for the Kharif 2026 season, aimed at ensuring stable fertiliser prices for farmers despite fluctuations in global markets.
