Jaipur Doctors Resume Strike, Demanding Action on Workplace Safety Measures

Resident doctors in Jaipur have resumed their strike, citing the state government's lack of response to their demands, including improved workplace safety. As a result, both elective and emergency services have been halted. The Jaipur Association of Resident Doctors president, Dr. Manohar Siyol, stated that they had given the government a 48-hour ultimatum, which expired at 8 pm on Saturday.

Jaipur Doctors Strike Over Safety Demands

Dr. Siyol mentioned that the government had promised in August to address their concerns, including workplace safety measures. However, no substantial actions have been taken since then. "We had been peacefully registering our protest in support of our demands for the last 12 days by boycotting elective services at the SMS hospital but the government showed no active involvement. They have been insensitive towards our demands. Therefore we were forced to suspend emergency as well as elective services tonight. Our demands remain the same as before," he said.

Statewide Impact of Doctors' Strike

The strike is expected to spread beyond Jaipur. Dr. Siyol indicated that resident doctors in Ajmer and Udaipur would begin boycotting work from Sunday morning. He also noted that residents in other districts would decide their course of action accordingly.

In August, the resident doctors initially went on strike following a tragic incident involving the rape and murder of a doctor in Kolkata. They returned to work after Jaipur's health minister formed a committee to address their demands.

The ongoing strike highlights the doctors' frustration with what they perceive as governmental indifference to their safety and working conditions. The situation remains tense as medical services are disrupted across multiple regions.
