Jab hoga toh pata chal jaayega’, Sonia’s cryptic answer on Rahul as Congress president

Once again, Congress president Sonia Gandhi refused to divulge any details about Rahul's elevation as the party president.

New Delhi, April 12: It looks like Sonia Gandhi is going to remain as the president of the Congress for a longer period, contrary to earlier reports suggesting that her son and party vice president Rahul to be elevated as the Congress' official head soon.

According to news agency, ANI, when Sonia was asked about Rahul's elevation as the party president, she replied in a cryptic manner, stating, "Jab hoga toh pata chal jaayega (You will know when it will happen)."

Sonia Rahul

"Jab hoga toh pata chal jaayega: Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Rahul Gandhi's elevation to party president," tweeted ANI.

Since last few years, reports are doing the rounds that Rahul would be appointed as the Congress president. However, reports are yet to turn into reality. Although, Rahul has been literally heading the party by taking all the major decisions, however, he is yet to become the party's official head.

Many say Rahul has not been appointed as the party head as many leaders within the Congress are not ready to accept the 46-year-old scion of the Gandhi family as their head and want his mother to remain the president.

While a section of the Congress is opposed to Rahul's elevation, others in the party wanted him to 'officially' take charge of the party, since Sonia is not so active in politics because of health-related issues.

Recently, Sonia went to the United States for her treatment. After she came back she is seen taking part in active politics by attending the current Parliament session.
As Rahul is yet to give the Congress a major election victory under his leadership, the post is likely to remain elusive from him.

Moreover, under Rahul's leadership the party has faced humiliating defeats since 2014 Lok Sabha elections. Things for the grand old party looks grim after the Congress scored badly in the assembly elections of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand recently.
