Is Kejriwal Avoiding The ED? Sixth Summons Issued In Liquor Policy Case

Delhi Chief Minister and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal received another summons from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday regarding the alleged illegal liquor scam case. This marks the sixth summons issued by the probe agency to Kejriwal, who has previously skipped five summons, referring to them as "illegal attempts" to arrest him. He has claimed that these summons were intended to hinder his election campaigning.

In response, Kejriwal has been summoned by the Rouse Avenue Court on February 17 for missing the previous ED summonses. The ED had filed a complaint against the AAP chief in the Rouse Avenue Court on February 3, following his failure to respond to the summonses related to the alleged illegal liquor scam case.

Meanwhile, Kejriwal has been summoned by the Rouse Avenue Court on February 17 following the ED's filing of a case against him for missing the previous summonses. The ED lodged a complaint against the AAP chief in the Rouse Avenue Court on February 3 after he failed to respond to the summonses related to the alleged illegal liquor scam case.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Divya Malhotra stated that under Section 50 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), probe agencies have the authority to summon any individual during an investigation if their presence is deemed necessary for providing evidence or producing records.

The court emphasized that the Chief Minister was obligated to comply with such summonses according to Section 50(3) of the Act. "By virtue of Section 50(3) of the Act, the respondent of the summonses (Kejriwal) and the proposed accused was legally bound to attend in person in pursuance of the same, but purportedly he failed to do so," the court stated.
