Is Karnataka Bandh Over Cauvery Water Issue Looming?
Amidst the ongoing Cauvery water dispute, Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV) president TA Narayana Gowda has called for a Karnataka bandh. The date for the bandh is expected to be announced later today during a meeting of Kannada organisations and farmer groups.
The Karnataka bandh is likely to have a significant impact on the state's economy and daily life. Schools, colleges, businesses, and government offices are likely to remain closed on the day of the bandh. Public transportation is also expected to be disrupted. Residents of Karnataka are advised to plan their travel and activities accordingly.

The call for a Karnataka bandh comes after the Supreme Court refused to mediate in the Cauvery water dispute. The court has directed Karnataka to release 5,000 cubic feet per second (cusecs) of water to Tamil Nadu daily for the next 15 days. This has led to intense protests by Kannada organisations, who argue that Karnataka does not have enough water to spare.
Protests have erupted in the Cauvery heartland of Mandya and Mysuru, with farmers and activists blocking roads and highways. They have urged the Karnataka government to reconsider releasing water to Tamil Nadu and to fight for the state's rights.
The Karnataka bandh is a sign of the growing anger among Kannadigas over the Cauvery water dispute. It remains to be seen how the situation will unfold in the coming days.
