India-Russia Collaboration Not Aimed at Any Country, Emphasises Vladimir Putin

Vladimir Putin stated that the India-Russia collaboration is solely focused on safeguarding national interests and is not directed against any country. He highlighted the resilience of energy ties despite external pressures.

Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that the collaboration between India and Russia is not aimed at any other nation. Instead, it focuses on protecting their national interests. This statement comes amid Washington's assertive stance towards both New Delhi and Moscow. Putin emphasised that neither he nor Prime Minister Narendra Modi has ever intended their cooperation to target others.

Putin highlighted that some parties are unhappy with India's increasing role in global markets due to its strong ties with Russia. These entities are attempting to limit India's influence for political reasons by creating unnecessary barriers. Despite Western sanctions on Moscow, Putin noted that Russia's energy partnership with India remains largely unaffected.

Energy Ties and Political Dynamics

During an interview with India Today, Putin addressed the issue of Western sanctions against Russia. He assured that the energy cooperation between Moscow and New Delhi continues smoothly. He also mentioned that certain actors dislike India's growing presence in international markets because of its close relationship with Russia.

Putin arrived in New Delhi for a two-day visit to hold summit talks with Prime Minister Modi. He reiterated that their collaboration is not against anyone but is focused on safeguarding their respective interests. "President Trump has his own agenda, his own goals, whereas we focus on ours -- not against anyone, but rather aimed at safeguarding our respective interests, India's and Russia's interests," he said.

Leadership and Bilateral Relations

The Russian president praised Prime Minister Modi's leadership, stating that Modi does not easily succumb to pressure. "Prime Minister Modi is not someone who succumbs to pressure easily. The Indian people can certainly take pride in their leader. This is absolutely obvious," Putin remarked.

He further added that Modi's approach is firm yet non-confrontational, aiming to protect lawful rights without provoking conflict. "Our goal is not to provoke conflict; rather, we aim to protect our lawful rights. India does the same," he said.

Trade and Economic Cooperation

On the topic of bilateral trade, Putin revealed that over 90% of transactions between India and Russia are conducted in national currencies. Although there are challenges due to multiple intermediaries, solutions are being sought. "While some complications arise due to the presence of numerous intermediaries, there are also solutions," he stated.

Putin acknowledged the importance of collaborative efforts with Prime Minister Modi, noting that these endeavours extend beyond mutual ties. "Our collaborative endeavours with Prime Minister Modi carry significant weight because they transcend our mutual ties," he said.

Ukraine Conflict and US Involvement

Addressing the Ukraine conflict, Putin expressed his belief that the US is actively seeking a resolution. He stated, "I am absolutely certain, with no doubt at all, he [Trump] sincerely aims for a peaceful resolution." Putin believes Trump genuinely wants to end hostilities and prevent further loss of lives.

However, Putin acknowledged potential political or economic interests linked to resolving the confrontation between Russia and Ukraine. "But there could also be political interests tied to ending the confrontation between Russia and Ukraine, or economic motives too," he added.

The Russian president concluded by highlighting the significance of ensuring stability in key areas of engagement between India and Russia. This stability helps secure the fulfilment of their objectives. Prime Minister Modi sets challenging tasks for himself and the nation, contributing to this stability.
