Mock drills across nation as Covid-19 cases cross 35k-mark

India on Monday reported 5,880 new cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours taking the total number of active cases in the country to 35,199 as per the data by the health ministry.

The death toll has increased to 5,30,979 with 12 deaths. The state with highest number of cases include Kerala (12,433), Mahrashtra (4,587), Delhi (2,460), Gujarat (2,013), and Tamil Nadu (1,900).

The Covid case tally was recorded at 4.47 crore (4,47,62,496) The active cases now comprise 0.08 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.73 per cent, the ministry said.

The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 4,41,96,318 while the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.19 per cent.

According to the ministry's website, 220.66 crore doses of Covid vaccine have been administered in the country so far under the nationwide vaccination drive.

On Sunday, the country logged 5,357 cases of Covid-19 taking the number of active cases to 32,814 while the death toll climbed to 5,30,965 with 10 deaths.

    3,726 people had recovered from the infection taking the aggregate to 4,41,92,837.

    The cumulative tally of coronavirus infections in the country now stands at 4.47 crore (4,47,56,616).

    Amid the rising Covid cases in the country, the ministry of health has announced two-day nationwide mock drills to assess hospital preparedness. Both public and private facilities are set to take part in the drills. Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya will oversee the drill at All India Institute Of Medical Science (AIIMS) in Haryana's Jhajjar.

    In a review meeting held last week, Mandaviya had asked state health ministers to stay alert and check the preparedness of health facilities. He had also advised them to review the preparedness with district administrations and health officials on April 8 and 9.
