India Promotes Peaceful Resolution of Russia-Ukraine Conflict Through Dialogue
New Delhi, March 28 - India has reiterated its commitment to fostering a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, emphasizing dialogue and diplomacy as the primary tools for achieving peace. This stance was articulated by Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal during a press briefing, highlighting India's position on the matter amidst the inaugural Peace Summit in Switzerland.

Jaiswal's remarks coincided with the arrival of Ukraine's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dmytro Kuleba, on his first visit to India. Kuleba underscored the significance of bilateral cooperation between Ukraine and India, expressing optimism about its future strengthening.
The MEA spokesperson also addressed concerns regarding Indians being misled by agents into joining the Russian military, stating that the Indian government is actively coordinating with Russian authorities to ensure the swift release and discharge of its nationals. He confirmed the unfortunate demise of two Indians in the conflict, whose remains have been repatriated and handed over to their families.
On March 8, Jaiswal had previously highlighted the issue of Indians being duped into working with the Russian Army, cautioning against such deceptive offers due to the inherent dangers and risks. This warning came in the wake of the death of Mohammed Asfan from Hyderabad and Hemal Ashwinbhai Mangukiya from Gujarat, both of whom lost their lives in separate incidents related to the conflict.
Kuleba's visit is part of broader efforts to seek a peaceful end to the conflict that has persisted for over two years. Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent discussions with both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy underscored India's support for dialogue and diplomacy as means to resolve the situation. Modi's conversations with both leaders also reaffirmed India's backing for peace initiatives and its readiness to contribute towards ending the ongoing conflict.
During Kuleba's visit, he is scheduled for bilateral talks with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. The discussions will cover a wide range of topics pertinent to Indo-Ukrainian relations, including a review of the Inter-governmental Commission held earlier. Additionally, regional and global issues of mutual interest are on the agenda, alongside several other engagements planned for the Ukrainian foreign minister.
India's consistent advocacy for peaceful resolution through diplomatic channels remains a cornerstone of its foreign policy approach towards the Russia-Ukraine conflict. As developments unfold, New Delhi continues to play a constructive role in international efforts aimed at restoring peace and stability in the region.
