India and 50 other countries will discuss strategy to seize Dawood assets
New Delhi, Nov 17: India has maintained always that the best way to fight Dawood Ibrahim is to weaken him financially. With this being the case, all eyes would be on an all important conference which would commence tomorrow (Nov 18) where representatives of 50 countries would discuss and suggest ways of recovering and attaching properties belonging to fugitives.
India has managed to locate the properties of Dawood Ibrahim and his syndicates across the world.

However, the challenge is the attaching of the properties. This conference which will be inaugurated tomorrow by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at New Delhi would see discussions on the subject which would be of great assistance to India.
What is on the cards?
The Enforcement Directorate, the CBI and even the media is aware of Dawood Ibrahim's investments and assets across the world. However, that is not sufficient and investigators have found it hard to attach these properties due to various international laws.

During the conference, which will see the participation of representatives from 50 different countries, suggestions and solutions to the problem of attachment and recovery would be given. Apart from this, the suggestions on tackling money laundering and also the use of Bitcoin will also be given and discussed.
Another interesting point of discussion would be the newly introduced Interpol notice known as the silver notice. The silver notice was introduced to assist member countries locate, monitor, attach and confiscate assets belonging to fugitives in foreign locations.
An official with the CBI which is the nodal agency for Interpol related affairs in India says that the discussions on the silver notice is important. It is extremely useful when we have to monitor the assets of fugitives.
The presence of representatives from 50 different countries makes the meeting an extremely important one. The attachment and recovery of properties of fugitives abroad is a major issue. If India is able to crack this and attach all such properties, then it would have weakened persons like Dawood Ibrahim a great deal.
