Dawood Ibrahim's UK assets worth Rs 1,000 crore set to be seized

New Delhi, Oct 14: After successfully locating properties owned by Dawood Ibrahim and his henchmen in the UAE, India has now managed to get list of his assets in the United Kingdom which is worth around Rs 1,000 crore.

India has been in talks with the agencies in the United Kingdom regarding the properties of Dawood Ibrahim.

The entire empire of Dawood in the UK was set up by his close aide Iqbal Mirchi prior to his death in 2013. Enforcement Directorate officials probing the case informed that the probe in the UK has been on for sometime now and there are several leads that they have gathered.

In all we have managed to trace 50 properties belonging to the D gang worldwide out of which there are around 10 in the UK alone estimated at around Rs 1,000 crore.

Seizure of properties

The ED is hoping to seize all the properties that have been listed in the names of the D gang in the United Kingdom. When Prime Minister Narendra Modi visits the UK, he will raise this issue and also hand over the dossier prepared in this regard. The PM is expected to visit the UK in November.

The ED hopes that with the help of the authorities in the UK, the properties would be seized and handed over to the Indian authorities.

There are diplomatic issues involved in this process, the ED official pointed out while adding that the PM would raise this issue like how he did in the UAE during a recent visit.

As per the investigations that have been conducted, the ED has managed to list several properties of the D Gang that are in the UK.

As per the information that the ED has, the properties are at-Herbert road, St John Wood Road, Hornchurch, Essex, Richmond Road, Tomswood Road, Chigwell, Roe Hampton High Street, London, Lancelot Road, Tharton Road and Spital Street, Dartford.

Global assets of the D-Gang

The global assets of the D gang is estimated to be at around Rs 3,000 crore. He has investments in Morocco, Spain, United Arab Emirates, Singapore, Thailand, Cyprus, Turkey, India, Pakistan and the United Kingdom.

In all the D gang owns 50 properties in ten different countries. All the properties have been purchased in benami names. So far the most concrete link that has been established between the D gang and the properties is through Iqbal Mirchi.

The investments made by Mirchi is highest in Mumbai and the United Kingdom. He had laundered away all the D gang's money in properties in the UK and Mumbai. The ED has managed to establish that Mirchi and his aides had invested in at least 6 properties in Mumbai.

The probe in India is primarily focused in Mumbai as the D gang has a majority of its assets in this city. Details of the properties and the transactions are being gathered.

Some of the transactions made through the banks are also under the scanner and the ED has sought the assistance of the Reserve Bank of India for the same.

There are around 20 different bank accounts under the scanner and transactions carried out by 30 firms to help the D network is also being analysed by the ED.
