Independence Day 2024: Red Fort To Be Secured With Advanced AI Systems

For Independence Day 2024, security agencies will implement advanced AI-based systems at and around Red Fort, enhancing surveillance and crowd management capabilities, according to sources. A detailed document reveals that CCTVs with video analytics will be installed at key locations, incorporating features such as:

  • Vehicle number plate recognition
  • Face detection
  • Crowd movement counting
  • Tripwire detection
  • Audio detection
  • Intrusion detection
  • Defocus alert
  • Abandoned or missing object detection

"We will also deploy AI-equipped cameras to monitor and count the entry and exit of people within the premises, enabling accurate crowd estimation through AI," an official explained.

FRS Technology to Enhance Security

The AI-powered cameras will also detect abandoned baggage in public areas and feature high-risk intrusion detection. Zone-specific alarms can be configured based on priority and sensitivity. The advanced Facial Recognition System (FRS) will identify faces in live video streams and recorded footage, cross-referencing them against a "Watch List" database and sending alerts to the control room if matches are found. The system can analyze multiple faces in group photos and search for similar faces across single or multiple cameras.

The FRS can also search for enrolled individuals by name or face, including unknown faces, using single or group images. A senior government official shared that while facial recognition has been used in previous years, this year will see the deployment of Number Plate Recognition (NPR), which detects vehicle plates in real-time, capturing video and snapshots of each vehicle, including those that violate regulations. The system will integrate with multiple cameras and sensors to capture driver images. Delhi Police will deploy over 700 CCTVs, including more than 150 cameras with video analytics features.

Over 10,000 Security Personnel to Safeguard Red Fort

More than 10,000 security personnel, including Delhi Police and paramilitary forces, will be stationed at Red Fort and other key locations in central and north Delhi. In a recent review meeting, held in the context of the attack on former US President Donald Trump during a public event, officials emphasized the need for additional arrangements to ensure heightened security during the high-profile event.
