Independence Day will be celebrated on August 15 during which the prime minister addresses the nation from the Red Fort.

On August 15, 1947, India achieved its freedom, marking the conclusion of nearly two centuries of British rule in the subcontinent. This day stands as a source of immense pride for all Indians, as we pay tribute to the millions of our freedom fighters who laid down their lives in the struggle for independence.

As India prepares to observe its Independence Day on August 15, the question arises: Is this year's celebration the 76th or the 77th Independence Day?

To resolve this, it's important to note that on August 15, 1947, India attained the hard-fought freedom from British dominion that it had pursued for over two centuries.

Consequently, India marked its first year of independence on August 15, 1948, its tenth year on August 15, 1957, its twentieth year in 1967, and its seventieth year in 2017.

Following this pattern, this year signifies the 76th anniversary of India's Freedom.
